When love and skill work together, expect a master piece. This is the way I would describe Emma and Gavin. They made the decision to drop anchor and get hitched on the 10th June 2017 at Hengrave Hall in Suffolk with just 10 months to plan! With Gavin working in Monaco, Emma had her hands full taking the reins organising their special day alongside caring for her two children. Boy, did she do a smashing job! This couple managed to achieve the perfect recipe of razzle dazzle along with romantic family intimacy.
“I considered hiring a wedding planner but I knew that I would want to look back and know that I planned it all myself. Around 4 weeks before the big day, it all suddenly became real! There were lots of last minute changes. With the help of all our amazing suppliers these were all dealt with swiftly! I went to Hengrave the day before the wedding and started to feel more excited as I was so confident in every company we had hired. Waking up at All Saints the morning of the wedding I felt nervous. But upon meeting the amazing Hannah Bibby at Hengrave I immediately felt at ease….she was amazing!”

Why did you choose to have your wedding at Hengrave Hall?
“I found a youtube video (UK’s Top 10 Wedding Venues – Bloomsbury Films) and watched it with my Dad on a rainy Sunday afternoon. As soon as we saw the church in the grounds, I called to enquire. Within literally five minutes of the tour I knew… this is the venue! I compare pulling up to Hengrave with pulling up to the first viewing of our house…..I had exactly the same feeling…..you just know it’s the place for you. I called Gavin once home and after hearing how excited we all were he said if thats where you want to get married then let’s get it booked!”
The ceremony took place in Hengrave’s own chapel found in the charming grounds. The finishing touches provided by Tudor Rose Florist alongside the mesmerising vocals of Revelation Avenue resulted in a truly whimsical setting.
“As I sat during the ceremony listening to Revelation singing so beautifully, looking at all the proud, emotional faces in front of us the feeling was just amazing. We both felt very special. The Long Gallery, Courtyard, West Terrace and of course the Minstrels Gallery all looked perfect….every little element was included and it surpassed our every hope and expectation.”
“People told me that I wouldn’t even notice the decorations/little touches on the day but I noticed everything as it all looked so shiny and new but so tasteful and classy at the same time. I was so busy in the Bridal Suite looking out at the view, watching Safe & Sound entertaining our children, getting ready and laughing with my special ladies that I totally forgot to put in my bridal earrings. After leaving for the church I remembered and got in a panic! Hannah overheard and literally within minutes the earring box was there and I was putting them in…..like MAGIC!”
“My Mum, Sister and my friend Helen and I chose my dress together. I loved all the lace dresses but they seemed to be missing that something extra. So when I saw the Allure gown with it’s beautiful embellishment, my family told me this dress was very much me. That made my mind up! I’m so pleased I chose this dress. Even though I would have liked to be the size I was before having children; I think it suited ,not only me, but also Hengrave and the whole day perfectly!”
The Grooms Attire
“Gavin, Zak & Sam’s wore bespoke made to match suits by Philip Alexander and we couldn’t have been happier…worth every penny! I was very pleased with our choice for the back of the waistcoats as music brings emotion and joy to everyone so the navy and coloured guitars complimented the day perfectly . The Groomsmen also wore Philip Alexander bespoke hire suits. I am so glad that we decided Gavin and the boys should look different to the groomsmen as it is after all as much the Grooms day as it is the brides. Itwas important for him to stand out too and our boys were obviously a huge part of our big day.”
Décor, Sound and Lighting
Emma and Gavin took full advantage of having Dreamwave expertise to hand. From sound production for their Ceremony and Drinks Reception, a complete array of lighting hire throughout the day and a Dreamwave DJ for their evening. This couple had the full Dreamwave Package!
“The decor was simply stunning. I had seen many photos from various sites including your site but they just do not do them justice. The West Terrace and courtyard looked amazing!! The flooring in the Minstrels Gallery looked perfect and just added that something extra without taking away the historical elements of the room. Dreamwave used the template from our wedding invites for the E&G for our gobo design and we used that theme throughout. We saw so many pics on social media of the gobo so were made up it was something everyone wanted to take a picture of. Every little detail I had requested was met and the candles along with a simple floral arrangement next to two picture frames of my Grandparents received so many compliments. I adored the window sills and the gift table, they lit up the venue inside and was exactly what I had requested, not one thing was missed.”
“We had hired Revelation and they made our day so special. However, they did come with lots of extra and last minute organisation including sound equipment and a last minute request for a keyboard! Dreamwave Events really did prove themselves to be a company that go above and beyond as they helped with every single requirement including the last minute keyboard search. The sound, both in the Church and during the drinks reception on the West Terrace was spot on and the choir received so many compliments. That said, you can have the best singers in the world but without the right equipment it wouldn’t have the same impact. Thank you guys!”
“I thought the lighting outside may be a wasted element as it was 10th June so longest days of the year but this was my absolute stand out favourite and even when the sky was still blue but evening had come the lighting looked gorgeous and lit up to show the venue off! One of my favourite photos is of us both walking along with the lights at our sides!”
Why choose Dreamwave Events
“I originally called and booked for DJ services as wasn’t aware of the other services. We were sent the options for Hengrave and fell in love with them all. I took time to meet with all the wedding suppliers but my meeting with Dreamwave stood out the most. The guys were so friendly and patient and went through every single option. I left the meeting feeling extremely confident in your knowledge of the venue and how good it would look.”
“We heard in the Bridal Suite that one of the Dreamwave staff had cut his head whilst setting up. One of my Bridesmaids is a doctor so she went straight down to check he was ok. He politely declined and said he was fine and continued his work! What a true professional! That on top of taking on the task of potentially sourcing a keyboard for our Choir at very short notice so goes to prove what a truly professional and bespoke service you offer. We honestly could not recommend Dreamwaves highly enough. Thank you!”
“I added 2 picture frames with photos of my Grandparents (who were too frail to attend) and both were placed on the piano with some flowers and a candle. Family means so much to me and it looked beautiful. So many of my family members came up and commented on what a lovely touch this was. “
“The framed caricature of the four of us (sketched by the amazing John Roberts) on our gift table was something I first requested immediately after booking the date. I didn’t want photos of the four of us around the venue that everyone had seen 100 times over on social media. But I did include a little framed picture of our boys on one of windows close to the bar as it’s our favourite photo of them both together.”
“We used Angel creations for our Invitations with the E&G emblem and thought it would be nice to continue this throughout. We used the same E&G symbol for all our stable stationary, table plan, Gobo design for the evening, our welcome mirror, ring box and a hanging door accessory.”
“Gavin bought some cigars last minute so I decided to add in the personalised matches which we put in a cognac style vase with a little personalised sign from Mr & Mrs Collins. This went down a storm with all of our guests and two weeks later some cheeky guests were posting pics on social medial of them smoking them in their gardens….but did include the hashtag so we let them off!”
“Although I didn’t see them as was still outside the church I was so proud of our two boys walking down the aisle. Our eldest son Zak is 6 and so he understood what was happening and was so looking forward to it. He was so proud to be Ring bearer (or ringmaster as he told all his friends|)! His face in the church…he was so excited, happy, proud and at the same time a little nervous as he wanted to do his best for his Mummy & Daddy. He made us the proudest parents alive….they both did.”
“The ceremony itself was beautiful. My friend wrote a poem about our long 13 year courtship which included many comical but also heartfelt moments. Lots of tears but also a few good laughs when we both had to state Gavin’s middle name ‘Wesley’ a couple of times during the ceremony. Revelation sung beautifully and I think I will have to ask them to record “over and over again’ (a song they learnt and rehearsed especially for us) as I prefer their version now!”
“The whole day, although a blur was simply the best day of our lives but the most memorable moment was watching the fireworks. Zak & Sam running up in their PJ’s and then holding them both in our arms, just the four of us as the ‘Collins Family’ is a memory we will cherish forever.”
The Evening Party with Dreamwave Events
“Darren was our kind of DJ! He was so friendly and people have asked if Gav or me we knew him! I asked for a Justin Bieber song to be played especially for my eldest son Zak. Darren made sure we were all in the room and did a shout out to him put then proceeded to put him in the booth with him and let him be DJ. He stood on a stall so all the guests could see him, wore the headphones, picked the next track over the mic and danced away. He was made to feel like the most important person there and weeks after the wedding and if anybody asks what was his favourite part of the day he says ‘being the DJ'”
“I also asked for a song be played for Gavin as it was his 40th birthday 5 days after the wedding day. I must say every single thing I requested was done but putting my son in the booth just went above and beyond our expectations and made a little 6 year old very happy.”
“Music choices were amazing and he managed to get even the dance shy guests up and boogying. Thank you so much Darren and we hope he enjoyed DJ’ing for us all.”
Advice for Future Bride and Grooms
“Gavin and I do not like to be centre of attention. With my shyness around the camera the whole idea of a ‘big white wedding’ was daunting. Because Gavin has so many friends and I am such a family orientated person we felt we couldn’t just fly away so decided on a wedding in the UK so that everyone could come. I think, without saying it out loud, we booked Revelation Academy, Nick Einhorn the magician and requested a round table apposed to top table so that we would not be ‘centre of attention’! “
“Our advice would be do not spend time worrying about silly stuff like that…..enjoy the planning with family, friends, the stags, hens and all the fuss. You never know you might surprise yourselves and ‘LOVE’ all the fuss on the day just as we did.”
“The day will fly by and you won’t have long with every guest to stand and chat but do take a moment to take it all in. Most of all take time to find your new Husband and tell him how much you love him!”
